EDP Renewables North America and the Redwood Coast Energy Authority completed Sandrini Energy Storage, a 92-MW/368-MWh battery energy storage system in Kern County.
Sandrini Energy Storage is co-located with the 300-MW Sandrini Solar project. The Redwood Coast Energy Authority has an energy-storage service agreement covering 100% of the battery capacity and 100 MW of the solar capacity. The arrangement links new storage capacity with an existing solar resource and is intended to help match clean generation with customer needs.
The project is expected to generate more than $5 million in local revenue and supported roughly 50 construction jobs. Those figures are specific to Sandrini, but the development reflects California’s continuing shift toward pairing large solar facilities with batteries that can deliver energy after daytime production falls.
