Hayward-based Voya Energy announced $35 million in Series A financing to advance an aluminum-based metal-fuel power system. Energy Impact Partners led the round, which will fund continued technology development, initial deployments targeted for 2027, and manufacturing scale-up planned for 2028.
Voya says its system combines aluminum-based fuel with a low-temperature electrochemical generator to produce electricity without combustion or air emissions at the point of use. The company is targeting data centers, industrial operators, and other large energy users facing limits on grid access, permitting, or fuel logistics.
The industrial design is expected to deliver up to 2 MW from a standard 20-foot container. Voya also describes a longer-term target of approximately 100 MW of generation capacity and 10 GWh of stored energy per acre. Those are company-reported design targets, not independently verified operating results, and the system has not yet reached its announced 2027 deployment phase.
