ForeFront Power announced commercial operation of an earth-mounted solar system at Fresno’s Northeast Surface Water Treatment Plant. The Erthos Earth Mount Solar design places modules directly on the ground, allowing the project team to reduce the structural-steel and racking work normally associated with a ground-mount array.
The installation is one part of a three-site solar-and-storage portfolio developed for Fresno’s Department of Public Utilities. The combined portfolio totals 27 MW-DC and is expected to save more than $122 million in ratepayer dollars by 2045.
The Fresno system entered commercial operation in late March 2026, had delivered 862 MWh, and was operating at an average of 101% of expected energy production at the time of the announcement. Those results are project-specific; the broader takeaway is that alternative mounting designs can change the cost and land-use assumptions considered during public-infrastructure planning.
