China TOPCon cell prices fall for third week amid fading export demand

FOB China TOPCon M10 cell prices dropped 2.29% week on week to $0.0469/W as export buying slows and wafer costs ease.

Chinese TOPCon solar cell prices fell for a third consecutive week, driven by fading export buying and easing wafer costs, according to the OPIS Global Solar Markets Report released Sept. 15. FOB China TOPCon M10 cell prices declined 2.29% week on week to $0.0469/W, while FOB China TOPCon 210R cell prices dropped 1.72% to $0.0458/W.

Prices for both formats are now approximately 12% below their late-August peaks but remain around 20% and 18% above their Aug. 4 levels, respectively. The report attributes the decline to restocking by overseas buyers ahead of the U.S. Section 232 measures, which are set to take effect Dec. 4, continuing to fade as inventories accumulate in overseas warehouses.

Domestic demand in China also remains subdued as the shift to market-based electricity pricing under Document 136 reform has reduced expected project returns relative to the previous fixed-tariff regime. Market participants expect cell prices to remain under pressure in the near term as inventories accumulate amid cooling overseas buying and continued domestic weakness.
