Oakland robotics firm Planted Solar raises $31.8M to scale autonomous solar deployment

The funding will expand Planted’s robotic fleet and support the launch of a next-generation installation robot.

Oakland-based robotics and software firm Planted Solar has raised $31.8 million to scale its autonomous power deployment technology, according to a report from Solar Builder. The round, co-led by Piva Capital and RA Capital Management Planetary Health, aims to address labor and supply chain constraints in the solar industry. The company says solar needs to be deployed about five times faster than it is today to meet projected 2050 demand.

Planted CEO Eric Brown stated the funding will expand the company’s existing robotic fleet and support the launch of its next-generation installation robot, Sage. Sage is expected to enter solar fields in 2026 and has more than double the field productivity level of the current fleet.

Planted representatives claim the company is on track for more than 100 MW of project installations in 2026, up from a full order of magnitude less last year. The firm also estimates its project pipeline currently reaches more than 20 GW. The company has completed the 11 MW Bowes Solar project and is developing the Armoracia project for Aligned Climate Capital.
